John J. and Margaret (O’shea) Burns had eleven children according to the 1900 Federal census. There are ten listed here. John and Maggie as she was known lived with his parents Patrick and Ellen Burns when they first were married. Their first four children started their lives with grandparents, Aunts and Uncle in the same house.
Ann Burns their first daughter was born 1864 died October 28, 1908. She married George B. Davis in 1892 and died at 42 y/o on 12/3/1907. She was buried with her Father in the Devir plot at Old Cathedral Cemetery. The 1900 Census for Philadelphia shows George B. Davis was 36 y/o and born August of 1863. His occupation was recorded as a teamster. He resided at League Island Navy Yard with wife Annie A. who was 35 y/o born September of 1864. They were married 8 years with one child living with them. Their Daughter Theresa M. was born February 1900. In 1910 he was a Widower living with his children Theresa M. and George J. he was born in 1902. Along with the children his mother in law Margarete Burns lived with them at 1116 Daly Street. George was a teamster in a Bottling works. He died before 1920 because his children were separated living with relatives. Theresa was living with Benjamin F. Sullivan and family; it was recorded she was his niece. George J Davis was living with Michael Prach (Roach) and family and his relationship was recorded as nephew. In 1930 he married Gertrude T. they were living with Joseph L. Sullivan Family. Joseph was one of Benjamin F. Sullivan’s sons.
John J. Burns born abt 1866 and married Mary E. unk in 1891. 1910 resided at 1111 Daly Street with children Margarite M. 1893, Mary E. born 1896, Frank P. born 1899, Agnes born 1901, Ellen born 1908 and Katherine born 1910. died at 52y/o 2/14/1919 buried in the Devir plot with his parents.
Catherine Burns was born in 1867/1868. She grew up in a large family. Her Family called her Kate and Katie. They lived in the South Philadelphia area where her Grandfather had first immigrated too. In 1880 at the age of she was in school and resided at 2120 South 10th Street. She married William Joseph Helmbold son of Robert and Josephine Helmbold before March 1886. They apparently lived with his parents at 814 McKean Street according to the 1887 Philadelphia city directory. She had at least five children. She died at the age of 41 on October 31, 1908. She was interred with her parents John and Margaret in the Devir Plot owned by John Byrne, at Old Cathedral Cemetery. The address on her Death Certificate was 915 Cantrell Street.
Theresa Burns born July 1870.
Francis Burns died February 23, 1871 at 6 days old. He died of Cyanosis, which is a lack of oxygen in the blood and thus an oxygen deficiency caused his death. He was interred at Old Cathedral Cemetery. The residence listed on the death certificate was 6 Reed Street in the rear.
Our Direct ancestor Ella Burns was born 1873 died 1922 married Stefano also known as Stephen Mellina in 1891. He was born died 4/17/1933.
Margaret Burns was born October 1874.
Mamie/Mary Burns was born October 1878.
James Burns was born December 1879 and died December 17, 1880 at 11 months old. His cause of death on the certificate looked like Rubella, which was also known as German measles. It is an infection of the respiratory system caused by a virus. He was interred at Old Cathedral Cemetery. The residence listed on the death certificate was 2120 S. 10th Street.
